6th Annual Christmas Hike to Shaw Butte Summit

This hike is rated INTERMEDIATE.
This is a joint event with the Phoenix Trail Mix Hiking group. Join me for an evening Christmas hike up Shaw Butte! We'll start at the Dollar Tree parking lot and take an unmarked trail into the preserve. When we hit the #306 we'll take it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE around and up the partly paved trail leading to the top. The beginning is flat which allows for a warm up, but then the majority of the climbing is packed into the middle and it's very steep but gradual. We will come down the same way we came up.
Half way down, there is a tree that is decorated for the season. Let's add to the fun and bring an ornament that you are willing to part from to add to the tree. We will also enjoy hot chocolate, some holiday cookies, and whatever goodies you would like to contribute.
You're encouraged to bring a camera and must bring at least 1+ liter of water per person and sturdy hiking footwear. You should also bring a flashlight and/or a headlamp as we'll be in the dark during this hike.

DIRECTIONS:We'll meet at the Dollar Tree parking lot on the SW corner of 7th Street and Thunderbird. Park along the southernmost end of the lot along the preserve border and 7th St.
