About us
Founded in 2024, the Phoenix Heat Canoe Club is dedicated to promoting an exceptionally competitive canoeing and dragon boat racing scene in Arizona. As Arizona’s fastest competitive paddling team to date, we offer a stimulating and goal-oriented environment that cultivates both newcomers and seasoned paddlers with a drive to unlock their full athletic potential. The club emphasizes personal skill development, teamwork, and augmenting mental well-being, through training programs personally led by one of the paddling sport's most accomplished American athletes.

Wednesday Evening Dragonboat Meetup

This practice is held in a dragon boat. Bring a water bottle and sunglasses or a cap with a brim or visor. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you don't mind getting wet. The best materials are quick drying synthetics. Don’t forget to apply water-proof/resistant sunscreen!

Curious about dragon boat paddling? Looking for a fun, challenging, and welcoming team environment? Phoenix Heat Canoe Club hosts New Paddler Tryouts every Monday evening, and we’d love to have you join us on the water.
This practice is beginner-friendly and designed to introduce new paddlers to the sport while giving you a feel for our team culture, coaching style, and on-water training.

### What to Expect
- On-water practice lasts about 90 minutes
- You’ll paddle in a dragon boat alongside experienced team members
- Practice includes basic technique instruction, drills, and short race-style pieces
- Training blends endurance, interval, and power work, with guidance throughout
If you’ve never paddled before, don’t worry — we suggest arriving a bit early so we can walk you through boat commands, calls, and basic paddling technique before launching.

### Attendance Note (Important!)
If the RSVP count on Meetup looks low, don’t be discouraged.
Our team primarily manages attendance through a separate app, and Monday practices typically have 20–40 paddlers on the water. Showing up matters more than the number you see online.***
