About us
We're a community of birders (have you ever appreciated or enjoyed wild birds? Congrats!! You are a birder!). We welcome beginners, experts, and everyone in between. Whether you are interested in getting outside, just downloaded the Merlin app and realized this could be a fun hobby, or if you have a life list a mile long- you’re invited!
We believe that birding is about community, both the people we share the experience with and the native ecosystems that birds call home. Our outings are designed to be casual and judgment-free — no gear or experience required.
### What We Value:
- Inclusivity and kindness — this group is committed to being an affirming space for everyone, especially those from historically excluded or marginalized communities. We actively welcome LGBTQIA+ individuals, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), people with disabilities (including physical, sensory, mental health, and neurodivergent identities), and anyone who has felt unwelcome in outdoor or birding spaces.
- Curiosity— we love learning together, sharing excitement, and celebrating all bird encounters. There is no pressure to ID every bird perfectly.
- Respect for nature and each other — we follow the basic code of birding ethics from the American Birding Association and Leave No Trace principles
- Accessibility — we do our best to make events easy to join and welcoming to all. Please reach out with any access needs!
I try to keep up with MeetUp messages, but the best way to reach me is by texting or calling my cell phone: Grace 540-597-8712
This group started in 2024 and is volunteer-led, if you would like to lead outings or have any suggestions, please let us know!

Birding Weekend Getaway: Patagonia, AZ & Madera Canyon
Madera Canyon Trailhead, Madera Canyon Rd., Green Valley, AZ, USThis Meetup event is to coordinate the planning of a weekend birding trip to Patagonia, Arizona and Madera Canyon, two of Southeastern Arizona’s birding hotspots. This trip will line up with spring migration and the beginning of mating season for the Coppery-tailed Trogon in Madera Canyon.
Travel, lodging, and meals are the responsibility of each individual, but we’ll coordinate as a group on general plans, meet-up locations, and birding spots. Everyone is welcome to join for all or just select parts of the weekend. Carpooling and shared lodging are encouraged but completely optional.
If you are interested or planning to attend, please fill out the interest form below so we can coordinate plans and logistics. Even if you are unsure at the moment, you can add your name to the list. We will virtually meet in March to work out the details.
