LoPiano Bosque Habitat in Tempe - September Outing

Details
Join us for a gentle morning walk along the canal trail through the LoPiano Bosque Habitat, a unique urban riparian habitat tucked between Tempe and Papago Park. This shaded green corridor is home to a variety of desert and migratory birds!
We’ll meet from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Papago Park in Tempe at the start of the Canal Trail in the southeastern area of the parking lot. Look for me wearing a blue shirt and pink hat or a group of people with binoculars! From there, we’ll walk the canal and into the LoPiano Bosque area.
What to Bring:
- Water
- Sunscreen/sun protection
- Binoculars or Monocular are optional, but we will bring extra!
- Be prepared for warm temperatures- It will be early and we will be in the shade but temperatures will likely be in the summer range.
Accessibility Notes:
- The Canal Trail is mostly flat and includes a combination of paved and hard packed dirt paths.
- Restrooms are available near the parking lot.
- The pace will be slow and casual with lots of breaks for viewing and water.
- How far we go before we turn around on the trail will depend on bird sightings. More trail info here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/canal-trail--3/photos
- You are welcome to message Grace on MeetUp or text (540-597-8712) if you have questions or would like to share ahead of time if you have any specific mobility or sensory needs — we’re happy to accommodate!
This event is free and open to all — whether you’re new to birding, looking for a new hobby, or just want to be outside with community.
Optional- Coffee after Birding: The Cafe @ Regroup (1205 N Scottsdale Rd, Tempe, AZ 85288)
