Know Your Rights! What are your civil rights as activists?

Vegan Academy is excited to be hosting attorneys Victor Aronow and Jamaar Williams of the National Lawyers Guild on October 6th at the Saguaro Public Library. Mr. Aronow and Mr. Williams will be giving a training to help activists learn about their civil rights and legal risks when coordinating and attending protests, demonstrations, disruptions, and other public activism events. Attendees will also learn about the dos and don't when engaging with police officers and what to expect if planning an act of civil disobedience. This training is targeted for both aspiring activists and especially for veteran activists who are looking to get the truth about legal subjects surrounding activism.

Vegan Academy is very grateful for the involvement of Mr. Aronow, Mr. Williams and the folks at the National Lawyers Guild ("NLG"). The NLG is the nation’s oldest and largest progressive bar association and was the first one in the US to be racially integrated. Our mission is to use law for the people, uniting lawyers, law students, legal workers, and jailhouse lawyers to function as an effective force in the service of the people by valuing human rights over property interests. This is achieved through the work of our members, and the Guild’s numerous organizational committees, caucuses and projects, reflecting a wide spectrum of intersectional issues. Guild members effectively network and hone their legal skills in order to help create change at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
