The Coercive Control Workshop: Recognizing the Elements of Emotional Abuse

Details

WHAT IS COERCIVE CONTROL? A WORKSHOP ON DEFINING COERCIVE CONTROL AND IF IT'S HAPPENING TO YOU, HOW TO MOVE FORWARD

This important and timely workshop will be presented as the first in our June series on Narcissistic Abuse Awareness. This particular workshop aims to educate individuals, including survivors, advocates, and service providers, about the tactics and impact of coercive control in intimate partner relationships.

We'll start by offering a clear definition of coercive control along with examples of statutory coercive control in various jurisdictions. Our discussion will then move to examples of coercive control and its effects on the victim. We will use case studies, scenarios, and interactive activities to illustrate how these tactics are used in real-life situations.

The workshop will then go on to assist the attendee in understanding coercive control by:
- discussing the criminalization of coercive control including in the UK
- recognizing, documenting, and responding to coercive control
- providing resources for accessing support and advocating for survivors.
- illustrating the lack of clear directive on coercive control cases with law enforcement
- giving survivors a realistic action plan on safety and removing yourself from coercive situations
- exploring strategies for preventing coercive control situations moving forward

This workshop is designed for ANYONE in a coercive situation whether it be an intimate partner, family member or workplace environment causing the issue.

COST: $20.00 non refundable. Workshop passholders welcome free of charge.

YOUR ORGANIZER: Kerrin is an attorney and fierce advocate of prosecution of coercive control laws. She is also a survivor of coercive control - a situation that was investigated under the UK law but dismissed due to lack of evidence - we'll discuss this as part of the course as this is the most common example of why coercive control laws have never been successfully prosecuted in the US and rarely get to the CPS (Crown Prosecution) level in the UK court system

You do not have to be an established member to join this workshop.
