After a bit of thinking about the group's first Meetup, I wanted to do something more than just the run of the mill photo walk or meet and greet. The photo walks will come, but let's do something a little different while the group is still small!

I decided on light paiting (1) because it's a lot of fun (2) because it allows for creativity and (3) it's getting hotter and sunset and the moments thereafter are beautiful, temperature wise.

So, what is light painting? Light painting is the art of creating photos by setting long exposure times on a camera and using a moving light source to “paint.” A light painting photographer opens a camera's shutter and keeps it open as they draw in the air with a light source.

What should you bring?
(1) A camera - capable of allowing longer shutter speeds
(2) A tripod - you can certainly try wihout one if you want to get some really abstract results
(3) A light source - this can be ANYTHING that produces light, from flashlights (torches) to LED keychain lights. You can bring whatever you have and I will bring along a few extra keychain lights and some fairy lights.

*** I will also likely attempt to do a little steel wool spinning to show what that looks like - I will bring everything needed for that setup ***

Where to meet:
We are going to meet at Kingswood Parke in Surprise, AZ which is on the north side of Bell Road between Bullard and Reems. You will go north on N Parkview Place and turn left on W Mondell Rd. There is a parking lot on the right, next to volleyball or basketball courts.

We will meet right around 30 minutes before sunset for brief introductions and if you wish to snap a few images of the park. Plus, we'll explore a bit to find out where we want to setup for light painting (and to give a bit of extra time for stragglers).

Bring your gear and bring water or whatever you prefer for drinks. If you have questions about the meet, please feel free to ask!

Looking forward to meeting y'all!
