Hi friends! Come join us on another adventure! We’ll meet at Mellow Mushroom at 7:30am and then carpool together to Picketpost Mountain in Superior, Arizona.

Picketpost is a moderately challenging hike, rated approximately 6.5 out of 10. It is more difficult than Camelback, but not as difficult as Flatiron. Expect steep climbing, uneven terrain, and a strenuous final section. This 4.2 mile round trip hike, is best suited for those who are comfortable with elevation gain and sustained effort.

Despite being a relatively short hike, Picketpost gains nearly 2,000 feet in elevation and finishes with sustained Class 3 scrambling, making it feel more like a climb than a traditional trail. The mountain’s flat-topped summit once served as a critical landmark for early travelers and miners, and was later used by the U.S. military as a heliograph station in the late 1800s. The summit is often marked by an American flag and rewards hikers with expansive views of the Superstition Mountains and the surrounding Tonto National Forest. The ascent is expected to take approximately 2 hours, with about 1 hour for the descent. We plan to spend around an hour at the summit to relax, enjoy the views, and eat snacks before heading back down.
