Mezcal & Metaphysics: The Inaugural Phoodie Philosophers Gathering
Join us for the very first Phoodie Philosophers event, Mezcal & Metaphysics, an evening of great food, thoughtful conversation, and intellectual exploration. Over a shared meal we’ll venture into one of philosophy’s oldest branches: metaphysics, the study of reality, existence, identity, and what it means for something to be “real.”
No prior background in philosophy is required. This event is designed for curious people who enjoy asking interesting questions, listening to different perspectives, and connecting with others through meaningful conversation. Our goal is not to arrive at the “right” answer, but to explore ideas together in a welcoming and engaging environment.
Discussion Question
Are you the same person you were ten years ago?
At first glance, the answer seems obvious. Most of us would say yes. But consider how much has changed: your beliefs, memories, relationships, goals, values, and even the cells that make up your body. If nearly everything about you has changed over time, what exactly makes you the same person?
Is personal identity based on:
- Your physical body?
- Your memories?
- Your personality?
- Something deeper, such as a soul or enduring self?
And if you lost all your memories tomorrow, would you still be you?
This deceptively simple question has fascinated philosophers for centuries because it forces us to examine what, if anything, remains constant amid constant change. Whether you approach it from science, spirituality, psychology, or personal experience, you’ll find plenty to discuss over dinner.
Come hungry for food, conversation, and a little philosophical wonder.
