What we're about

ATX Photography 101 was created for those looking to understand the basics of photography! This is not intended to be helpful for anyone that considers themselves even an advanced amateur, though your welcome to join of course! This information is intended for those who want to learn to use the camera they already have to create better images. It doesn't matter if you're using and iPhone or you have an expensive DSLR you keep in full auto. I would love to help you get better images in the moments when they count!

Photography 101 - How your camera works!

Needs a location

I had this class set at $10 and far fewer people were RSVP'ing. So, I'm changing it to reflect my intent. (which was stated here before) The class is "pay if you feel it was worth it". If you felt the information was worth while when the class is done, I ask that you pay $10. Otherwise, thanks for coming! This class, well its more of a discussion really.... is about your camera. It doesn't matter if you you have an iPhone or an advanced level DSLR, I'll show you how to understand your camera a little better and the basics of how it makes and image. Things we are going to review: • Understanding your cameras buttons, menus and adjustments. • Understanding when to use your flash. (ps - just don't do it! Not with your on camera flashes anyway. That is the quickest way to make a photo look eh.) • Some basic composition techniques and considerations. • Any questions you have specifically about working your camera. We will try to stay on topic of understanding your camera vs. delving in to understanding how to make a specific type of image with various camera settings. No promises... I get 'passionate' about discussing all things photography! Reminder, this is a very basic class! If you already understand what Time Value is, what ISO stands for or what the benefit of the P on the dial of your DSLR is... THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. My goal with this class is to help would be photographers and those who just love capturing the moments to understand there tool just a little bit better!

Monthly Photo Walk - Republic Square Farmers Market

Needs a location

MONTHLY PHOTOWALK This is a great way for the community of photographers to get together. We will walk a predetermined path. You're free to wonder! Everyone can discover new places to shoot, discus the way your neighbor got that shot and you can play with your camera in new ways you may not have thought of before! • Each month we will pick a different location to walk. As the time of sunrise changes we will adjust the meeting time to be about 15 minute prior to sunrise and starting to walk PROMPTLY at 15 minutes later. • The walk will be about 1 hour. • Walks will be about 1 mile round trip. I think =-P. I'll link a google map of the intended path. • Walks will generally be in a paved or well pathed area. • This is Texas y'all... bring water, dress appropriately for the weather and know your own abilities and limitations. I'm going to work on plans for posting and discussing your favorite images after the walk.... suggestions as to how or where and when are welcome. For now, the experience will be the walk with fellow photographers. You CAN however, post your images on this specific meetup event immediately if you would like! That's it... hope to see you there! Brandon Burkhardt = = = Notes = = = What is a Photowalk? Photowalk according to Wikipedia: "Photowalking (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photowalking)is a communal activity of camera enthusiasts who gather in a group to walk around with a camera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camera) for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that interests each photographer. Although the term implies the single activity of taking pictures while walking, the more modern use of the term specifically relates to a communal activity of camera enthusiasts." WHY 7:00AM? I can guarantee you just about every great photo ever taken was taken at an uncomfortable time and in a place most people never go. That is when and where the rare and special moments are! Oh yeah... and golden hour. Golden hour is the time of day when the sun is nearest the horizon and the natural light is at it's absolute best. Sunrise and Sunset!
