About us
This group is focused on delving into the captivating realms of night and infrared photography. Through the use of DSLR and mirrorless cameras, we aim to unveil the hidden beauty of the night, revealing scenes that are beyond the scope of our natural vision. Additionally, we seek to embark on a visual journey, capturing the world in a new light with converted infrared cameras, showcasing its unique characteristics and nuances. Join us for meetups, workshops, and photo walks as we explore the art of seeing beyond the apparent and capturing the world in a unique and creative way.

Full Moon Rise over Boston
Robbins Farm Park, Arlington, MA, USThis is the first of two scheduled Meetups at Robbins Park this weekend. Why two at the same place? The Moon will rise in different spots and at different times, offering distinctly different framing and light.
Skill level - Intermediate to advanced.
Weather-dependent event. In case of heavy cloud cover, the Moon will be obscured, and the Meetup will be canceled.Let's photograph the (almost) full Moon from Arlington. This month has a Blue Moon, the 2nd full Moon. The first of May's two full moons is called the Flower Moon, and the second is the "Blue Micromoon". It's called the micromoon because the Moon is at apogee, or furthest distance from the Earth, the opposite of a supermoon.
So, why will we be so far from capturing the Moon over Boston? Distance lets us utilize lens compression when using a long lens for a big pizza pie-looking Moon.
Sunset is at 8:13 PM, blue hour begins at 8:34 PM. The Moon rises at 8:10 PM.
The image is from PlanIt! Pro and illustrates how and where the Moon will appear using a 500 mm lens from our location.
What you need:
- DSLR or mirrorless camera
- 300 mm or greater lens. The longer the focal length, the greater the compression (and the bigger the Moon!).
- Tripod
- Shutter release to trip the shutter without introducing movement.
There is street parking around the perimeter of the park.
If you have never photographed a full Moon, here are some tips and suggestions.
