The sun sets almost to the minute of the full moon rising. This offers a unique opportunity to shoot images of the sunset and the moon rising behind Cathedral Rocks here in Sedona.

Meet the walk leaders at the Webers IGA Parking lot at 5PM. Webers IGA grocery store is just behind Chase Bank at the intersection of HWY 179 and Verde Valley School Road.

From here we will gather in fewer cars to drive to the end of Verde Valley School Road. The last few miles is dirt and a dirt parking lot. Red Rock Pass is required to park so using fewer cars and using passes folks have (I have one and can carry up to 4 more people in my car) we can park easier.

A short 15 to 20 minute easy hike down the road and up Oak Creek on the southeast side will bring us to the reflecting pools area and a classic Cathedral Rocks view.

Depending on the water height and stream flow some shots are best done with the tripod and possibly you ankle to knee deep in the creek. Other shots can be done on dry land. So bring your water shoes and bug juice!

A tripod is a must and bring a cable release (or know how to use your camera time delay). Plastic bag or camera rain cover. Rain Jacket for you and camera bag.

It will be dark with moonlight as we hike back so bring a head lamp or flashlight.

Drinking water is a must! Don't go minimal...

This is Monsoon Season! So be prepared! We might get lighting instead of clear skies. We might get clouds and moon rise. Be might just have clear skies... Who knows! If it is stormy we will change up and try and find a safe place to take lighting shots depending on the storm's location.
