We have explored and photographed the Eastern Sierra area many times in the past 30 years.
Both Javier and I absolutely love being out on the field and seeing the sights. But more importantly, we enjoyed capturing the scenes and visions in our mind's eye with a camera. We do this workshop to share our fun with other passionate photographers. Anyone who has joined us on our free workshops probably has seen this passion in action.
The excitement of getting a good picture propels us to keep going.
Here is our itinerary.
We are planning to leave the San Jose area and travel east over Tioga Pass on highway 120. We will photograph along the way and our goal is to get to Lee Vining to meet up with you at 3:00 pm and then to Bodie by Saturday afternoon. We will photograph Bodie in late afternoon light through sunset and into the night. We will stay in Bodie until 10 pm when we will be asked to leave by the rangers. We will have full moon to light the historic ghost town giving our photographs a truly unique take and imagery.
Once we are done with Bodie that evening, we will head to Mono lake to do some night photography.
On Sunday morning we will get up nice and early for a sunrise at Mono Lake South Tufa formations.
After Mono Lake, you are on your own, we will have breakfast at the Whoa Nellie Deli. We will drive home through Yosemite and take pictures along the way.

What about refunds?
Full refunds are offered if the workshop is canceled or rescheduled for any reason. If you cancel 30 days prior to the July 29th we will refund 100%. Within 30 days you forfeit the full amount.
Do I tip my workshop guide?
Tipping is customary in the U.S. service industry and is an important component of guides’ compensation. The tip amount is at your discretion, but as a rough guide, consider giving 5 to 10 percent.
Can I still come if I am just learning my camera settings and photography?
Yes!! New photographers are welcome to come and pick our brains. That said, please let us know what level you are at. Most photographers do have a basic understanding of their camera equipment. They will post-process their images using software such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Photographers who know a little about this will get more out of the workshop.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable, warm clothing and shoes at the workshop, we’ll be on our feet for many hours. Wear clothes that you can get a little bit dirty as we may kneel, lay down, or track mud on our shoes. Bring a hat and gloves, no need to be uncomfortable. The nights will be cold and the days average 60 degrees. Bring sunscreen and comfortable clothes for both hot and cold weather.
What happens if the weather is poor, like raining, do you cancel?
We will not cancel the trip and we will work with whatever weather Mother Nature gives us.
That said we have gotten the best pictures on days with clouds in the sky. I hope we have clouds but if we don’t we will bring you to places that create the best images for whatever weather we run across.
Some of the best pictures are shot on days that it rains, and clouds make for dramatic skies. Bring an umbrella!
OUR GOAL: Have a great time taking photographs of Bodie at night and Mono Lake in the morning. Learn tips and tricks to create better compositions, night photographs and better landscape photographs in general.
