In this January meeting of the Sontag Book Club, we’ll discuss the opening chapter of On Photography, where Susan Sontag examines how images frame reality and assert authority over what counts as “truth.”

No prior background in photography or theory is needed. This is a discussion‑based, welcoming space.

📚 We’ll also read a short excerpt or two from the chapter aloud together, so don’t worry if you haven’t had time to finish it.

### Optional Call to Action

Bring a photo that feels authoritative — one that presents itself as “this is how it was,” even if you now question that framing.
It can be personal (a family photo), historical, journalistic, or something from your phone.
