Photograph Healthy Birds of Prey in Flight

Come and photograph Birds! You will learn a lot and come away with awesome photographs!

These demonstrations include birds that are trained for free flight, with each different bird unique in its own appearance and flight style. All of the birds are domestically produced, professionally trained, happy, and healthy. See the images (not ours, from their website, that you can get here).

We have THREE dedicated private two-hour sessions scheduled, with an informal image review in between sessions 1 and 2.

Flying Birds could include: Great Horned Owl, Snowy Owl, Bald Eagle, Harris Hawk, Red-Tailed Hawk, Barn Owl, Harlan’s Hawk, Golden Eagle and Eurasian Eagle Owl will be added when available

Static Birds could include: Barred Owl, Eastern Screech Owl, Merlin, Gyrfalcon, Eagle Owl, Aplomado Falcon

Location: Vittoria, Norfolk County, ON (Canada). Trip is ~8 hours from Hamden CT, but it can easily be split into two four-hour pieces.

This workshop will teach you the many important aspects of bird photography, including but not limited to exposure (changes dramatically when the eagle is against the sky or the water), which autofocus mode to choose, which drive to use, light angle, stopping action, blurring action, composition, head angle, predicting behavior, exposure, etc.

We will have fun. Dress warmly. Bring hot hands. Transportation, Lodging, and meals are on your own. $599

Bring a 300mm lens or longer (there are many people there with 600 and 800mm lenses), but bring a 70-200 type lens too as the birds come quite close too. Either a Tripod or a Monopod or a Black Rapid type strap https://amzn.to/3gSVKDA is useful during slow times. You have access to your car.

COVID. Tom and I are both fully vaccinated. This is an outdoor event. Here is what you need to know and comply with:
• Anyone who is sick with COVID-like symptoms must not attend.
• Anyone who has a fever over 100 degrees must not attend. Please check your temperature BEFORE you leave home.
• If you signed up for a workshop and have a positive COVID test please contact us ASAP.
• Anyone who has knowingly come in contact with a COVID positive person within the past two weeks must not attend.
