Tripod photo tour of Ellis Island immigrant hospital, laundry, morgue, etc.

Details

Come photograph at Liberty state park, on the Ferry, at Ellis Island Immigration museum, and at the unrestored Ellis Island immigrant hospital building including the laundry, morgue, hospital, etc. This tour will take you to select areas of the 750-bed Ellis Island Hospital, including infectious and contagious disease wards, kitchen and the mortuary and autopsy room. At its peak of operation in the early 20th century, this was the largest Public Health Service facility in the United States. Following in the footsteps of the dedicated doctors and nurses of years gone by, you will learn the fascinating history of the hospital and its role in preserving public health. You'll also visit the Laundry Building, with much of its original equipment still in place, where over 3000 pieces of laundry were washed and sanitized daily.

Location is on Ellis Island (must purchase a ferry ticket). Plenty of parking at Liberty State park. There are many ways to get here, email us if you prefer a route over the Tappan Zee (Mario Cuomo) bridge rather than the GW bridge, or if you prefer a route that doesn't go on I95, there are options.

Tom and I will be photographing, as this is a photo tour, but we love to share and teach. Tom and I will share compositional and technical advice and show you what we are shooting and thinking.

$399. Does not include ferry ride. You must purchase a 9am ticket via Statue City Cruises which is the ONLY vendor authorized to provide tickets and transportation to Liberty and Ellis Islands. No other ferry company can give you access to the Islands, monuments, and museums.
Additional tickets are not needed to enter the Statue of Liberty Museum or Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration or our tour of the laundry, morgue, hospital, etc.
