Wed., July 17–John Elliott: The Intersection of Social Documentary and Fine Art

Details

Join us on Wed., July 17 at 7 pm when John Elliott presents THE INTERSECTION of SOCIAL DOCUMENTARY and FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY, including “The Human Pulse,” “Walls/Spaces,” and other ongoing photography series.

You will be astounded by John’s exceptional work as a lifetime photographer who has traveled and photographed in more than 60 nations. Working as a diplomat with the U.S. State Department, a U.S. Army photographer, a photojournalism teacher, and a creative director for an advertising agency have provided John with a global view few of us experience.

In John’s words:
“In The Human Pulse series, I strive to portray a multi-faceted spectrum of global humanity – joy to suffering, spontaneity to reflection. Captivated by the dreamlike timelessness of interacting human shapes, I seek higher vantage points when pre-visualizing many of my photos. The location of encounters and subjects within spatial time and space seem predestined. My inspirations have been the photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sebestião Salgado, Diane Arbus, Robert Frank, and Lee Friedlander, as well as Wim Wenders’ existentialist film, ‘Wings of Desire,’ and even the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch.

As I am a long-time human rights activist, the social documentary aspect of The Human Pulse series is intentional. Photo titles are deliberately undated, to blur the zeitgeist. And to elicit viewer curiosity, I am often drawn to ambiguity of event or action, for I believe questions are often more enlightening than answers.”

John’s work has appeared in many national magazines and galleries, with expositions in the U.S., South America, and the Middle East.

Don’t miss this inspiring presentation!
