Fall Foliage Photography Adventure in Harriman Stare Park & Bear Mountain

Join us on an afternoon foliage photo adventure where we will shoot until sunset. Our tour will take us around Bear Mountain, Harriman and the Hudson Valley. We will explore and photograph till sunset and twilight begins. We will end the night with a brief intro to light painting.

We will focus on:

Developing a Creative Vision

Understanding Composition

Using Shapes, Textures, and Light

Capturing Long Exposures and Motion

What should I expect?

We will start with a photo walk in Harriman State Park. We will give all participants the opportunity to shoot and capture beautiful rivers, forests and fields. We will guide you through different photography techniques, camera settings and how to use filters to properly expose your shots. We will also spend a good amount of time on photo composition and developing your own style so your photos will tell your story to the viewer. We will continue through the park stopping for short hikes and photo opportunities. Susan grew up exploring Harriman State Park and the surrounding areas and will guide you to the best spots. We will end a great day of shooting at local restaurant for dinner and recap.

Group size will be kept small (approx. 8 participants) to afford each participant one-on-one instruction both in the field.

What should I bring?

Upon signing up we will send everyone a detailed equipment and material list. The basic gear everyone should have is a digital SLR camera body, tripod and a variety of lens. We will be out for sunset so bring a headlamp and light painting tools.

We will be outside walking/hiking for the photography portion so it is advised for you to dress in layers and wear proper footwear. Temperatures and conditions can change so it is best to be prepared.

We also recommend bringing a water and snack to stay hydrated and happy.
