About us
Do you love photography, long walks, and discovering hidden corners of Tokyo? Or maybe you're looking to stay active, challenge yourself to hit those elusive 10,000 steps, or even lose a little weight—without the boredom of gym workouts?
Welcome to Tokyo Photo Walk & Step Challenge!
Each meetup, we'll pick two stations—like Kichijoji to Shimokitazawa—and take a long, scenic stroll between them, stopping to take interesting photos along the way. It's a relaxed, supportive, and fun way to trick ourselves into moving more while exploring the city together. All skill levels and fitness levels welcome!
Join us to walk, snap photos, and stay motivated.
### 📷 Group Guidelines & Etiquette
- Friendly & Respectful
Let's keep our walks welcoming for everyone! Be respectful, friendly, and considerate of fellow walkers. - Comfort First, Photography Second
This isn't a photography competition—it's about enjoying the walk and casually snapping photos. All skill levels welcome, from pro camera gear to smartphone-only. - Prepare for Walking
Expect to walk around 10,000 steps each time. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, sunscreen, or whatever you need to stay comfortable and safe. - No Rush, No Pressure
We'll walk at a casual pace, but ensure you're comfortable walking a longer distance. Let’s stick together and not leave anyone behind. - Casual Photography
We're here to walk first and snap photos second. At random spots, we'll spend just a few minutes (around 3 minutes max) to take quick, casual photos. For special locations like temples or photo-worthy sites, we'll slow down and spend a bit longer like an hour or 2, depending on the location.

Photography Practice walk - Theme 3: Small Object/Detail Hunt
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #3: Small Object/Detail Hunt
I want to try another format, this time focused on finding and shooting small things in the city instead of people or wide scenes. The theme is simple: practice noticing, isolating, and photographing small objects—details you usually walk past without seeing.
This could be anything: stickers, scratches, signs of wear, reflections, trash, textures, tiny moments hiding in plain sight.
The goal isn’t “beautiful photos,” but training your eye to see smaller. We’ll create an Instagram group DM and share photos from the session there.
⚠️ Important Note 1
This is not a photography lesson or workshop. Please make sure you already know how to use your camera and basic exposure/focus settings. There will be no technical instruction during the event.⚠️ Important Note 2
For this series of photowalks, we’ll always shoot in Shibuya.
The location stays the same on purpose. By returning to the same streets each time and changing only the constraint (lens, theme, or approach), we train our eyes to see the same place differently—instead of relying on new locations for inspiration.🗓 Event Outline
Area: Shibuya
Meeting time: 7:00 PM
Meeting point: Cafe Veloce (about a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station, slightly away from the busiest areas)
Wrap-up: 9:00 PM
After: Drinks / izakaya nearby for anyone who wants to join
If you are late, DM me on instagram. This isn’t a long walk. If the group gets large, we’ll split into smaller groups so it’s easier to move around—especially in busy areas like Shibuya. We’ll regroup at the original meeting point at the end.
📷 Shooting Rules (Very Loose)
- You’re free to take any photos you want
- But please focus on small objects / details
- Try to avoid obvious landmarks or wide cityscapes
- Get close, isolate, simplify
No pressure, no competition—just experimenting, learning, and seeing how differently everyone notices the city.
If this works well, we’ll keep the format and change the constraint each time (size, distance, color, theme, etc.).

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #4: Fisheye lens
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #4: Fisheye lens
I want to try another format, this time focused on shooting with a fisheye lens in the city.
The theme is simple: bring your fisheye and lean into distortion.
The goal isn’t “beautiful photos,” but training your eye to see how differently the city feels through a fisheye. We’ll create an Instagram group DM and share photos from the session there.

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #5: Bring your Props
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #5: Bring Your Prop
I want to try another format, this time focused on photographing a single prop you bring with you.
The theme is simple: bring one small object and make it the main subject of your photos.
It can be anything small and easy to carry—a plush toy, mini figure, toy, everyday object, or something personal. You’ll photograph the same object in different parts of the city and see how context, background, distance, and angle change the story.
The goal isn’t “cute” or “perfect” photos. It’s about consistency, observation, and learning how much the environment shapes meaning.
We’ll create an Instagram group DM and share photos from the session there.

- Try to use the same prop throughout the walk
- You’re free to shoot however you like
- Focus on how the city interacts with your object
- Avoid switching subjects constantly—stick with your prop
- Optionally, bring a small light (LED light, mini light stand, etc.)
- If you don’t bring a light, feel free to help each other by holding or positioning lights
- Share a few photos in the Instagram group DM
No pressure, no competition—just experimenting, learning, and seeing how differently everyone notices the city.

Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #5: Slow Shutter or Short video
カフェ・ベローチェ 渋谷二丁目店, 〒150-0002 東京都渋谷区渋谷2丁目14−18 あいおいニッセイ同和損保 渋谷ビル 1階, Shibuya, JPTheme #5: Slow Shutter or Short video using tripod
I want to try another format, this time focused on time instead of subject.
The theme is simple: use a slow shutter or record very short video clips using a tripod.
Instead of chasing moments, we slow things down and let movement happen inside the frame. People passing, traffic, screens, lights, shadows—anything that changes over time becomes the subject. This isn’t about technical perfection or cinematic results.
It’s about patience, framing, and noticing what only appears when you stop moving. We’ll create an Instagram group DM and share photos or short clips from the session there.

This isn't about super long exposure like taking photos of star trails. We won’t be staying in one spot for a long time. This is about brief pauses, observation, and moving on—not setting up and waiting for hours.🗓 Event Outline
