Photography Practice Walk in Tokyo - Theme #6: No Eye-Level Shots
Details
Theme #6: No Eye-Level Shots
I want to try another format, this time focused on breaking our default point of view.
The theme is simple: no photos taken at eye level.
Every shot must be taken either:
- Very low (near the ground), or
- Very high (overhead, arms up, stairs, looking down)
By removing the most comfortable viewpoint, we force ourselves to slow down, move our bodies, and rethink framing. Shibuya instantly feels unfamiliar when you stop seeing it from standing height.
⚠️ Important Note 1
To ensure a good group experience, the event may be canceled if fewer than 5 people are signed up by the day before.
📷 Important Note 2
This weekly photowalk is more than just a single event.
It’s part of an ongoing creative cycle for photographers and videographers — both hobbyists and professionals — who want to develop their skills by trying new themes and sharing ideas together.
Each week works like this:
- Before the meetup:
- We share inspiration, references, ideas, questions, and tips in our Instagram group chat so everyone can prepare and experiment more intentionally.
- During the meetup:
- We shoot, collaborate, and try new approaches.
- After the meetup:
- We share our photos/videos, discuss what worked (or didn’t), and begin collecting ideas for the following week’s theme.
To get the full experience, please join the Instagram group chat as soon as possible — ideally before the meetup day.
That’s where:
- inspiration is shared
- props / gear ideas are discussed
- location thoughts are exchanged
- preparation happens
If you only show up on the day, you’ll miss half the process.

🗓 Event Outline
Area: Shibuya
Meeting time: 7:00 PM
Meeting point: Cafe Veloce (about a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station, slightly away from the busiest areas)
Wrap-up: 9:00 PM
After: Drinks / izakaya nearby for anyone who wants to join
If you are late, DM me on instagram.
This isn’t a long walk. If the group gets large, we’ll split into smaller groups so it’s easier to move around—especially in busy areas like Shibuya. We’ll regroup at the original meeting point at the end.
📷 Shooting Rules (Very Loose)
- No eye-level shots
- Shoot very low or very high only
- You’re free to shoot any subject
- Lying down, crouching, stairs, overhead shots are all fine
- Be quick and respectful in busy areas
- Share a few photos in the Instagram group DM
No pressure, no competition—just experimenting, learning, and seeing how differently everyone notices the city.
If this works well, we’ll keep the format and change the constraint each time (size, distance, color, theme, etc.).
