PHP-SI Meetup #15

Details
Hey hey hey,
After a really long time, we decided that it is finally time to start our meetups again. During the Covid/Corona times, we felt that one of the main reasons for Meetups is lost with online events - networking and socializing in person.
The event will be hybrid on the venue and online - the URL for the online event will be provided on the day of the event - here in the description and on the Facebook group "Slovenski Developerji".
The event will begin at 18:00 - with some beers and just mingling, later at around 18:30. There will be two main talks:
#1 - What's new in PHP 8.1
PHP 8.1 is in the last development phases and will be released successfully by the end of the year 2021.
In this talk, we will go through all the shiny and new features of PHP version 8.1. You will learn how to safely prepare your projects for the upcoming version and avoid any unwanted surprises or downtime. You will also get a quick glimpse of what you might expect in future PHP versions.
Speaker: Peter Kokot
#2 - Interactive debugging PHP with VS Code and Xdebug
Damjan has recently taken over the maintenance and development of the vscode-php-debug open-source project (https://github.com/xdebug/vscode-php-debug). This is a VS Code extension that, in combination with Xdebug, allows interactive debugging of PHP code.
In this talk, we will go over what interactive debugging is, what are the common debugging operations that VS Code interface offers, what is the architecture of a VS Code debug adapter extension, what kind of usual setups allow the best experience for debugging PHP with VS Code and a shortlist of the top problems users report to GitHub issues. We will also talk about what it is like to maintain such an open-source project and how it happened that he took over from the previous author.
Speaker: Damjan Cvetko
Damjan has been writing code and building systems professionally for more than 20 years. He started out with C/Pascal and got later introduced to PHP along with other languages and ecosystems. In recent years he was active with Android Java/Kotlin development specifically in interaction with Bluetooth Low Energy devices and currently Flutter. He also works with virtualization software, network design, and system operations. With his company, he laid out the groundwork for what is currently one of the largest news sites in the country.
-------
But we encourage you to come forward with some lighting talks about your DIY projects, research, or anything else that you can think of that would be interesting to a group of geeks :).
For speakers and for anyone who wants to have a lightning talk, we have presents prepared.
After the main part of the event, we would like you to stay and hang with us a bit - there will be Pizzas and other snacks available.
COVID - 19:
On the event, the mask are obligatory as it is PCT.
