November | Understanding the Personalities of Successful Developers

Details

Note: exceptionally this month's meetup is on a Tuesday.

This month we're extra spoiled as we don't have one but two speakers.

First, we've got Joby Harding giving a lightning talk named "Ain't Nobody Got Time For That: Generating TypeScript Definitions from PHP" (details further down). Joby is an Independent Full Stack Developer & Consultant at Full Stack App Company and a regular PHP Sussex attendee.

Next, Greg Bryant, a Tech Lead at Tempcover, will give his talk "Becoming The Code Whisperer: Understanding the Personalities of Successful Developers" in which he lays out a typology of developers and what it means for team work. What kind of developer are you? What kind of developer would you like to be? Are the sort of questions he'll help you answer (details further down).

This event will be hybrid, meaning you can either join in person or online (please register for the meetup either way!):

The in-person event will take place at Runway East in Brighton from 6 pm. There will be food and drinks and you're welcome to come have a chat before the talk starts (around 6:30 pm).

Online participants can join the live stream from 6:30 pm.

This is how Joby introduces his talk:

"Manually maintaining 'glue' types between your back-end and front-end code is nuts. Ain’t nobody got time for that. A blast through how and why you might want to use TypeScript Transformer to synchronise TypeScript definitions with your back-end PHP classes. Thrills, spills, code and gotchas."

And this is how Greg summarises his:

"In 'Becoming the Code Whisperer: Understanding the Personalities of Successful Developers', we explore the idea that every developer has a unique personality that influences how they approach their work. By understanding your own inner developer personality, you can better understand your fit within the team and play to your strengths.

We also examine how a broad range of these personalities can contribute to good team dynamics to create a well-rounded team. Through relatable examples, we will show you how to recognize your strengths and weaknesses and work effectively with others with different personalities. Whether you're a new developer or an experienced one, this presentation will help you become a code whisperer who can work with any team to deliver great results."

Hope to see you there and then!
