Hybrid (On-location + Virtual) Meetup May 2022

Details

For the first time in a long time we organise an in-person event in collaboration with our friends of BrusselsPHP. Because of limited seating, we provide an online experience for those who are not able to make it physically.
For in-person seating, see BrusselsPHP Meetup Event.
To join online, check the link below.

We have 2 great speakers for you: Thomas Shone and Thijs Feryn! Event hosting is generously sponsored by [Cu.be](https://cu.be/?rel=meetup_phpbenelux_202205), who also provide food and drinks at the event.

Have a ๐Ÿ‘€ at the schedule below.

### ๐Ÿ—ฃ Thomas Shone - MySQL with ๐Ÿ”” & ๐ŸŽต

Dive into MySQL to explore our Cargo Culting behaviours and the inner workings of MySQL that explain how the Cargo Culting formed and some useful tricks you may not know about.

  • What happens when a table doesn't have a primary key?
  • What does a sane primary key look like?
  • What is a clustered index?
  • How do indexes work?
  • How should I design my indexes and how do I know if it is actually being used?
  • What tools are there out there to make my life easier?

### ๐Ÿ—ฃ Thijs Feryn - Advanced HTTP logging with Varnish

Varnish has become an industry standard for caching and web acceleration. A side-effect is that it comes with some excellent tools for logging.

In this presentation we'll use tools like varnishlog, varnishtop and varnishncsa to get some advanced insights on the HTTP traffic patterns of your web platforms.

You probably know the Apache log format? In this presentation we'll take it to a whole other level and perform request & response introspection, get speed and latency measurements, perform advanced content filtering and get statistics on connections, request and response details.

Even if you're not planning to cache anything, Varnish could be an excellent tool for logging at large scale.

## ๐Ÿ’ธ Event sponsoring

Long term support comes from our friends at SPATIE, the Belgian Laravel tooling factory and web agency. Go check out their great training course โ€œFront Line PHPโ€ to learn all about building modern applications with PHP 8 or visit their โ€œ[Myray.app](https://myray.app/)โ€ for unprecedented debugging of PHP applications.

Infinite Opportunities (iO) is the rebranded name of our friends at Intracto. They have a new brand and want to share it with the world.

A special gratitude goes out to [Cu.be](https://cu.be/?rel=meetup-202205) for hosting the event and providing catering.

And we werenโ€™t able to make these meetups possible without the help of IN2IT. We are super grateful to Michelangelo and his crew for providing logistical support in this endeavour ๐Ÿ‘

Interested in becoming a sponsor at our next event? Send us an email to sponsoring@phpbenelux.eu and weโ€™ll make it happen!

## ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Join the community
