Speaker: Peter Fisher (@pfwd)

Peter Fisher is a UK based contract PHP developer. He has over 20 years experience writing PHP software for small to enterprise clients.
Peter is also the host of How To Code Well, a YouTube channel that has taught developers a wide variety of programming languages. How To Code Well has a live weekly podcast and Peter is a member of the live coders Twitch team.

Talk: Code with confidence using PHP_CodeSniffer

As PHP rapidly advances there is a growing need to support and upgrade projects that are well established and running legacy versions of the programming language. Whilst keeping up-to-date with the latest PHP changes may seem like the highest priority, there is also a pressing need to enforce standards and rules which the development team adopts. Without these coding standards a project is harder to maintain, upgrade and understand. For new projects, the lack of standards will cause the project to become messy and unreliable which will eventually slow down development of features and fixes. Tools like PHP_CodeSniffer or PHP CS Fixer can help to enforce these standards but how does a development team apply rules to an existing code base or to a new project?
