Imagine you have been happily married for 20 years to your high school sweetheart. You are a recent empty-nesters and you and your wife have both been enjoying a new found surplus of free time together. One evening while enjoying a glass of wine and a movie together, you see a silent text from "Landscaping" pass over her phone with a flirtatious message thanking her for her visit to St. Paul last week... The week she was on a business trip in DC, as far as you were aware.

You look up from her phone and into the eyes of a stranger you once believed was your wife. You are both unsure of what to say.

Peterson has proposed that our perception functions through the lens of narrative - We do not see objects, we see meaning. When we find our maps of meaning are not accurate to the territory, we are suddenly plunged into a chaotic underworld where our past, present, and future are all unknown.

Join us this month for a game of "Meaning Fall" in which we will explore various scenarios of existential crisis.

Questions to consider:
1. Have you had any experiences that made you suddenly question your foundational beliefs about the world? What happened? How did you navigate reorienting your life?

2. Similarly, have you had any experiences that made you suddenly question your beliefs about yourself? How is it that we can be mistaken about ourselves when we are ourselves?

3. Do you have any beliefs that you fear losing or doubting? How would your life look differently if you lost that belief?

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The first half hour of our meetup is for mingling, then 7:30pm-10pm consists of a formal presentation and discussion; the discussion section may divide into smaller groups if size necessitates. All are encouraged to contribute to the formal discussion, although you may decline if you wish. Afterwards, we enjoy further discussion with those who wish to stay longer and pursue pertinent topics in more depth, but people should feel free to leave whenever they want/need to.

We have a potluck for everyone to partake of throughout the evening, so bring some food to share if you wish (this could be anything from a bag of chips to a homemade dish).
Our fundamental principle is to encourage the free expression and exploration of ideas. Therefore, we will never silence controversial views that anyone may have about a topic. For the same reason, we do not tolerate direct personal attacks, which only impede genuine dialogue.
