Noah: God as the Call to Prepare

Details

Description:
Join us for a deep dive into Jordan Peterson’s “Noah: God as the Call to Prepare” from We Who Wrestle with God.
What makes someone wise enough to see catastrophe coming when everyone else is blind? How do civilizations fall when they abandon their sacred foundations? Join us as we explore Peterson’s profound analysis of Noah—not just as a flood survivor, but as the archetypal wise man who maintains proper orientation toward the divine when chaos threatens everything.
We’ll examine how the “giants in the land” represent distilled ancestral wisdom, why contempt for tradition unleashes the dragon of chaos (paralleling the Mesopotamian Enuma Elish), and what it truly means to “walk with God” without self-consciousness. Peterson brilliantly connects Noah’s character to Nietzsche’s warnings about nihilism and shows how the rainbow covenant symbolizes the integration of transcendent order with material reality.
Special focus will be given to Ham’s transgression—with an expanded interpretation of why his descendants were cursed. While Peterson sees this as contempt for tradition, we’ll explore deeper textual evidence suggesting a more severe violation that explains the gravity of the curse and its civilizational implications. Perfect for those seeking to understand how ancient wisdom applies to modern chaos, why respect for tradition matters, and what it means to build your own “ark” of integrity in turbulent times. No prior reading required—just bring curiosity and an open mind for meaningful discussion.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The first half hour of our meetup is for mingling, then 7:30pm-10pm consists of a formal presentation and discussion; the discussion section may divide into smaller groups if size necessitates. All are encouraged to contribute to the formal discussion, although you may decline if you wish. Afterwards, we enjoy further discussion with those who wish to stay longer and pursue pertinent topics in more depth, but people should feel free to leave whenever they want/need to. We have a potluck for everyone to partake of throughout the evening, so bring some food to share if you wish (this could be anything from a bag of chips to a homemade dish). Our fundamental principle is to encourage the free expression and exploration of ideas. Therefore, we will never silence controversial views that anyone may have about a topic. For the same reason, we do not tolerate direct personal attacks, which only impede genuine dialogue. DISCORD SERVER (updated link!): The group has a Discord server! This gives us all a space to talk about stuff between meetups. Use the following link to join, if you haven't already: https://discord.gg/FRab8G8j2V
