Tell the truth, or at least don’t lie, and have the adventure of your life.

This month, we dive into Chapter 6 of Dr. Jordan B. Peterson’s We Who Wrestle With God: “God as Spirited Call to Adventure.”

In this chapter, Peterson explores the ancient stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the fathers of the covenant, alongside the dramatic fall of Sodom and Gomorrah and the mysterious vision of Jacob’s ladder. Through these narratives, he traces humanity’s timeless journey from comfort toward courage, from the known into the unknown.

We’ll be discussing truth as the call to adventure, both for Abraham, who left everything familiar in obedience to a higher voice, and for each of us, who must confront the same challenge in our own lives. Along the way, Peterson unpacks enduring themes of sacrifice, transformation, and the pursuit of a worthy ideal, emphasizing that meaning emerges not from safety but from voluntary confrontation with chaos and the willingness to change.

This discussion invites us to wrestle with our own sense of calling:
What does it mean to step into the adventure of truth?
What must we sacrifice to become who we could be?
And how do we, like Abraham, respond when the divine call demands everything?
Join us as we reflect, debate, and, true to Peterson’s challenge, wrestle with God.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The first half hour of our meetup is for mingling, then 7:30pm-10pm consists of a formal presentation and discussion; the discussion section may divide into smaller groups if size necessitates. All are encouraged to contribute to the formal discussion, although you may decline if you wish. Afterwards, we enjoy further discussion with those who wish to stay longer and pursue pertinent topics in more depth, but people should feel free to leave whenever they want/need to.

We have a potluck for everyone to partake of throughout the evening, so bring some food to share if you wish (this could be anything from a bag of chips to a homemade dish).
Our fundamental principle is to encourage the free expression and exploration of ideas. Therefore, we will never silence controversial views that anyone may have about a topic. For the same reason, we do not tolerate direct personal attacks, which only impede genuine dialogue.

DISCORD SERVER (updated link!):
The group has a Discord server! This gives us all a space to talk about stuff between meetups. Use the following link to join, if you haven't already:
