Read Heidegger's "Parmenides"

Details

In our next session we will finish up Heidegger's Parmenides, based on his 1942-1943 lecture course. Besides the introduction to Parmenides famous philosophic poem, Heidegger here treats the Greek concept of truth as Aletheia or "unconcealment", contrasting it with the understanding of truth as the correctness of judgments. He also illustrates the original meaning of "Lethe" to the Greeks with an interpretation of the famous afterlife story at the end of Plato's Republic.

For our third and final session on this work, we will read part 2 through to the end of the whole. This elaborates Heidegger's own understanding of truth as aletheia as prefiguring his own conception of "the open", and relates what we have seen in the course to his own project and "other beginning".
