Read Heidegger's "The Origin of the Work of Art" from Basic Writings

Details

For our next session we will continue to examine works of Heidegger, this time reading together the essay "The Origin of the Work of Art" from Basic Writings. We cover this next as we continue to follow the thread of Heidegger's treatment of the essence of truth, which is here related to works of art.

Since this essay runs 70 pages with end matter we will split this up into 2 sessions. In the first we will cover the brief introductory section (untitled) then the 2 sections "Thing and Work" and "Work and Truth", which cover pages 143-182 in the Harper Perennial edition. The following session will read the section "Truth and Art" as well as the Epilogue and Addendum, covering pages 182-212.

Attendees will join a waiting room before the session and will be let in individually. Please use a real screen name, be sure you have signed up on meet up before the session, and use the same name on Zoom. If you have any doubts or concerns, feel free to send me a PM on meet up before the event.

Previous familiarity with Heidegger will be helpful but is not required. Please bring your questions.
