LIfe got a little crazy and full for a little while so I didn't post a meetup. But I'm back and hoping to keep up the practice.
For this meetup, I'd like to practice just listening to others. No 4-part process this time around. Depending on how many people want to spend a Friday evening doing this, we will either do this as a group or break into pairs to practice listening. The task will be simple. One person will share their feelings and/or thoughts on a specific topic (which I will provide). They will say a few sentences (flexible 5-10) and the other person will practice listening for details, thoughts, feelings, and repeat back to the other person what they heard. This does a few things: gives us practice listening to the other person without worrying about our own response or analysis, gives us practice listening for details, gives the other person an experience of being heard and how that feels.
Depending on number of people and how smoothly this goes, I may add to the exercise a few things so that we can notice the difference of the way the above exercise feels compared to other ways of interacting.
I'll send out my address once you sign up and before the actual meeting. It will be held in my apartment which is near Scottsdale Road and Curry Road in north Tempe.
I'd love it for you to attend. People who are new to NVC: please start reading anything by Marshall Rosenberg. He also has many YouTube videos if you haven't yet bought his main book.
Please bring $1 to add to the collection to help Joseph upkeep this meetup group. Joseph, I have a few bucks to give you sometime.
Hope to see you soon!
