About us
Everyone is curious about how the universe works, from astronomy and cosmology down to the smallest building blocks of nature. This is a social group where we'll talk about what's going on in current research, and what it means to the average person.
It's not a free graduate school or a place for amateur theoreticians to promote their ideas. So all you need is curiosity about the world we live in.
Physics has both technological and philosophical applications. We'll consider both. We'll do some of our own experiments in "fluid flow" at local bars monthly. Also we'll have physics slide shows in the library meeting rooms, followed by discussions at nearby restaurants.

AAS has this to say...
8:00 Practical Astronomy
8:30 General Meeting
As we mentioned at last month's meeting, we'll be gathering at a different location than our usual UT classroom- one of our favorite alternatives sites, St. Stephen's Episcopal School off Loop 360, where Frank Mikan has once again graciously invited us to enjoy his wonderful science classroom and observatory.
Also, we'll be meeting at 8pm instead of the usual 7, to accommodate the later sunset time and have a chance to do some observing after the meeting. We're invited to explore the many wonders of Frank's science classroom before a brief business meeting, then Frank will give a presentation, and after that we'll have the opportunity to observe through several of his telescopes!
We look forward to seeing you there for another fun night of astronomy and fellowship!
Practical Astronomy, beginning at 8:00 p.m., will be in the classroom and observatory of our friend Frank Mikan where we can see all of his astronomical treasures. The meeting will begin next door at 8:30 and will include a presentation by our members Dawn Davies and Greg Rohde on amateur astronomer conferences and events such as AstroCon and the Oregon Star Party. After the meeting we can look through several of Frank's scopes, although an almost-full moon will somewhat get in the way. Pizza and drinks will be available.
