Seminar: Mirror Life, the World's Most Dangerous Material?

Hosted By
Linda F.

Details
Most of the molecules that make up life on earth are either "left-handed" or "right-handed", according to which way they rotate the plane of polarized light. Some researchers speculate that life could exist in the mirror image form, perhaps on another planet. Could we make such mirror life in the lab? What would a mirror microbe do to us? Dr. Paul Hemmes will tell us about the chemistry and possible hazards of mirror life.
You don't have to be a senior; all adults are welcome. If this is your first visit to Lamar Senior Activity Center, please come early to fill out a registration form. The front desk staff will take care of you.
