Advanced study group: Quantum Field Theory
Details
This is an advanced study group dedicated to the rigorous study of Quantum Field Theory. Given the intricate nature of the subject, several prerequisites are assumed:
- Linear Algebra
- Multivariate Calculus
- Ordinary and partial differential equations
- Familiarity with quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and special relativity.
Our main textbook is "Non Nonsense Quantum Field Theory" by Jakob Schwichtenberg. Our secondary book is "Phenomenology of Particle Physics" By Rubia, which is also studied in our particle Physics meetup:
https://www.meetup.com/physicswithfriends/events/305554908/?eventOrigin=group_events_list
For the next session, our goal it is to cover Wick's Theorem. To prepare please read:
- Chapter 10
- Chapter 11, sections 11.1 and 11.2
Open questions/problems from Chapter 9:
- What happened to the free field part of the Hamiltonian? How come it does not participate in the S matrix computation?
- Can you derive 9.37 from 9.36 with a variable substitution instead of a picture?
