ABOUT “SUDESTIVAL” 2013 Film Festival in DC
from Regione PUGLIA, ITALIA
SUDESTIVAL 2013 is a Film Festival born in the South of Italy, in the BARI province - Regione Puglia in 2000. It represents the best of Italian independent cinema, offering premieres by young filmmakers who, thanks to this first exposure, have subsequently gained national and international recognition.
SUDESTIVAL in DC brings to the USA films that participated in the 2013 SUDESTIVAL competition just this past March. It offers six feature films and three shorts, which will reveal to the American audience aspects of the most contemporary Italian reality through the lens of a talented new generation of filmmakers.
Following this first edition, SUDESTIVAL in DC will become an annual event on the Washington, DC cultural scene.
SUDESTIVAL in DC opening night will take place at the Embassy of Italy with the participation of guests from Italy, among them two filmmakers. The evening will include a screening of the film trailers and three shorts . The festival screenings will then continue at the WEST END CINEMA in DC, May 21-23, 2013 (see the SUDESTIVAL 2013 film screening schedule below)

This film is based on the true story of Victor and Arben, two Albanian brothers who landed in Brindisi in 1991, at the time of a massive emigration. They get accidentally involved in a fight among car drivers and assume the role of traffic cops in the midst of a concert of blowing horns. They succeed in directing traffic with impeccable precision, like professionals. The brothers are therefore able to stay in Italy permanently, in their role of human traffic lights.
LA MOGLIE (The Wife)

A married couple, Valerio (Enrico Silvestrini) and Simona (Valeria Solarino), decides to spend their wedding anniversary in a little beach house, isolated and romantic, to be alone for two days and try to restore their relationship. They talk, debate, fight, and sleep, but they do not make love. Between them there is tension, misunderstanding and boredom. The couple plays a game of pretension and complicity that gives reality a more intriguing dimension. This game involves also the viewer, with the use of telling clues. The strength of the film is that it does not reveal the secret until the very end.
This film was awarded the SIAE Prize for best script at the XIV Festival “La Cittadella del Corto.”

This is the story of a boy and a dog, of time passing by, of our incapacity to see everyday ordinary things, and of the enchantment we feel when we do notice those things. This short was judged “Best Italian Film” at the XXI Fano Film Festival.
