Nicknamed the “Green Heart of Italy” because of its lush landscape, warm people, and central location, Umbria has it all: ancient ruins, Renaissance art, scenic landscapes, and medieval hill-towns.
The region is also renowned for its exceptional wines and food such as olive oil, salamis, cheeses, and renowned black and white truffles.
This evening, food historian Francine Segan leads a delightful virtual tour of Umbria, beginning with Perugia, home of the University of Perugia, founded in 1308, and Assisi, a World Heritage Site and home to two medieval castles, a Roman amphitheater, and several stunning cathedrals. The region is also known for Spoleto and its world-famous music festival; Gubbio, a medieval town that boasts the world’s largest Christmas tree - a fact recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records; and Orvieto, notable for its stunning cathedral and an intricate network of underground tunnel and wells dating from Etruscan times.
