The Vivaldi Project continues its exploration of the string trio, following its path from Baroque trio sonata through its Classical form in the hands of some the late-18th century's greatest composers.

Only a few of these string trios survive as celebrated works to modern audiences, notably the grand Divertimento in Eb by Mozart and the op. 9 set of three string trios by Beethoven. But there is a trove of these magical compositions by important composers including JC Bach, Cambini, Boccherini, Campioni, the famed Joseph Haydn, and many others. Largely ignored by musicians and audiences for over 200 years, these wonderful works contribute to the narrative of the evolution of the chamber music canon, as well as a proving ground for working out ideas about concerto and symphony forms.
