Avremo a disposizione una sala riservata tutta per noi, perfetta per vivere al meglio l’esperienza del book club in tranquillità.

📖 La stanza di Giovanni – James Baldwin
Un romanzo intenso e profondamente umano che esplora temi come l’identità, il desiderio, la paura e il senso di appartenenza. Ambientato nella Parigi degli anni ’50, racconta la storia di David e del suo rapporto con Giovanni, mettendo in luce le complessità dell’amore e dei conflitti interiori.
Puoi leggerlo sia in italiano che in inglese — la nostra community è internazionale e durante l’incontro potrai anche confrontarti con persone che parlano altre lingue, oppure cogliere l’occasione per praticare il tuo italiano.
Il book club sarà guidato in modo libero e non accademico, attraverso giochi, domande e spunti di riflessione. Non è necessario aver finito il libro: ogni contributo è benvenuto.
✨ Rituale di Book Swapping al buio
È fondamentale portare almeno un libro per poter partecipare allo swapping.
📚 Il libro deve essere:
– incartato (senza titolo visibile)
– accompagnato da una frase che ne descriva l’atmosfera
– nuovo o usato (non è importante)
– appartenente alla narrativa, romanzi o saggi
⚠️ Non sono ammessi manuali o libri tecnici poco affini alla lettura di piacere.
⚠️ ATTENZIONE: se non porti un libro da scambiare non potrai prenderne uno durante lo swapping :)

The event will take place at The Goethe Hotel, an elegant and stylish venue in the heart of Rome, known for its refined interiors, contemporary design, and intimate atmosphere. We will have a private room exclusively for our group, creating the perfect setting for a cozy and engaging book club experience.

This month’s book is:
📖 Giovanni’s Room – James Baldwin
A powerful and deeply moving novel exploring identity, desire, fear, and belonging. Set in 1950s Paris, it follows David and his relationship with Giovanni, shedding light on the complexities of love and inner conflict.
You can read it in either English or Italian — our community is international, so you’ll also have the chance to connect with people who speak different languages or practice your Italian.
The book club will be guided in a relaxed, non-academic way, through games, questions, and discussion prompts. You don’t need to have finished the book — every contribution is welcome.
✨ Blind Book Swapping Ritual
Bringing at least one book is essential to participate in the swapping.
📚 The book must be:
– wrapped (no visible title)
– include a short sentence describing its atmosphere
– new or used (both are fine)
– fiction, novels, or essays
⚠️ Technical manuals or non-recreational books are not allowed.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If you don’t bring a book to swap, you won’t be able to take one during the swapping :)

Una cena letteraria pensata come una piccola parentesi del nostro book club: meno strutturata, più raccolta, dove il filo conduttore sarà la letteratura e le connessioni tra le persone, nello stile di Pignetismi.
📚 Il leitmotiv della serata – Libri, relazioni e connessioni
La serata si ispira a tre modi diversi di vivere le storie:
l’intensità delle relazioni di James Baldwin,
l’introspezione e il tempo sospeso di Virginia Woolf,
e la naturalezza delle connessioni contemporanee di Sally Rooney.
Come nei loro mondi narrativi, anche qui la conversazione sarà il vero cuore della serata: autentica, spontanea e senza giudizio.

The evening is inspired by three different ways of experiencing stories:
the emotional intensity of James Baldwin,
the introspection and suspended sense of time of Virginia Woolf,

Just like in their works, conversation will be at the heart of the evening: authentic, spontaneous, and open.

Il 28 aprile ci incontriamo per una serata dedicata a Oldboy (2003), un film intenso e disturbante che mescola vendetta, mistero e identità.
Un nuovo appuntamento di Pignetismi dedicato al cinema, alla condivisione e alle connessioni che restano.
Questa volta commenteremo e analizzeremo insieme Oldboy, il celebre film di Park Chan-wook: la storia di un uomo che, senza sapere perché, viene imprigionato per anni e poi improvvisamente liberato. Da quel momento inizia una ricerca ossessiva della verità e della vendetta, che lo porterà a confrontarsi con segreti profondi, memoria e conseguenze inaspettate.
Un racconto potente e spiazzante che esplora il lato oscuro delle relazioni umane e si costruisce intorno a una domanda inquietante:
quanto possiamo davvero conoscere noi stessi e gli altri?

This time we’ll explore and discuss Oldboy, the iconic film by Park Chan-wook: the story of a man who is mysteriously imprisoned for years and suddenly released, only to begin an obsessive search for the truth and for revenge.
A dark and gripping journey into memory, identity, and the consequences of past actions — built around a disturbing question:
how well can we ever truly know ourselves and others?

ATTENTION: the film will not be screened (you can watch it on streaming platforms or if you’ve already seen it).
Watching the film beforehand is not required, but recommended.

You don’t need to be a film expert — just curious and open to discussion.
