Mt Sneffles

Details

We’ll be starting from the Yankee Boy Basin Trailhead and climbing Mt. Sneffels (14,150 ft), one of the San Juan’s most beautiful peaks. The route is considered Class 2+ (mostly trail with some loose rock and light scrambling near the summit).

Mileage / Elevation Gain: ~7 miles round trip, ~3,000 ft of gain

Difficulty: Moderate to challenging — you should be comfortable with steep hiking and some scrambling

Pace: Steady and social — not a race, but expect a solid workout

Start Time: Early morning start to avoid weather (details in group chat)

Carpooling: im staying at a campsite at Blue Mesa Reservior. A high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended to reach the upper trailhead. Let me know if youre in the area and want to carpool to the trailhead, or meet at the TH and hike together!

Bring:

Sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes

2–3L of water

Snacks / lunch

Layers for cold, wind, or rain

Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)

Helmet (recommended for loose rock near the summit)

Note: This is a group of friends getting outdoors — not a guided trip. Everyone is responsible for their own safety, decisions, and preparedness.
