The planned transition of Poor Richard’s long time community center will be celebrated today ( May 3). The public is invited to a block party on Sunday, May 3, to celebrate the legacy of longtime owners Richard Skorman and Patricia Seator as they retire and pass the torch to new owners.
The downtown location has served as a community hub since 1975, offering books, toys, pizza, coffee, and a place to gather with friends. Under Skorman and Seator’s leadership, the space became a hub for creativity, conversation, local art, and music.
New owners, Joe Cole and Sarah Gibeau-Cole, will continue the legacy of Skorman and Seator. In a press release announcing the block party, the new owners said, “We’re honored to carry forward the magic Richard and Patricia created. Poor Richard’s isn’t just a business, it’s a living story written by generations of customers, employees, artists, musicians, families, and friends.”
The block party will take place from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday on North Tejon Street, in the block between East Boulder Street and East Platte Avenue, which will be closed to traffic for the event. The party is free and open to the public and will feature live music, community tributes, and opportunities for guests to share memories with Skorman and Seator. A family zone will include a bounce house for children, kiddie rides from the Manitou Penny Arcade, face painting, crafts, and more.
