What we’re about
A Pittsburgh movie club for fans of foreign, independent, classic, arthouse and offbeat cinema. Before each meeting, we will watch the same movie on our own time. Then, we'll meet over drinks and food to discuss it. No special expertise required! Just bring an open mind and a few thoughts to share.
Past movie selections here!
Selections are made by members who have attended at least 3 meetings. This Meetup will not focus on brand new/ currently-in-theaters releases -- there are other groups out there for that, and the hope here is to introduce participants to older or overlooked movies they might not otherwise see. Choices must be widely available online through streaming rental or multiple subscription services (no exclusives to a single subscription streaming service). Meetings take place every other Wednesday.
We also have a Discord! We use this to organize local hang outs and screenings outside regular group meetings. Discord is basically a chat forum where you join a specific server and can chat with people there. If you would like an invite to the Discord, please message an organizer.

Apple (rental)Synopsis, from Criterion: "With her ravishingly sensual take on Herman Melville’s “Billy Budd, Sailor,” Claire Denis firmly established herself as one of the great visual tone poets of our time. Amid the azure waters and sunbaked desert landscapes of Djibouti, a French Foreign Legion sergeant (Denis Lavant) sows the seeds of his own ruin as his obsession with a striking young recruit (Grégoire Colin) plays out to the thunderous, operatic strains of Benjamin Britten. Denis and cinematographer Agnès Godard fold military and masculine codes of honor, colonialism’s legacy, destructive jealousy, and repressed desire into shimmering, hypnotic images that ultimately explode in one of the most startling and unforgettable endings in all of modern cinema."
