Details

NOTE: This event is free of charge per Coderetreat Hosting Guidelines, but attendees are asked to pay $10 in earnest money through https://paypal.me/codeandsupply. This earnest money will be refunded for those who show up day-of in cash or within 48 hours after the event, or optionally donated to C&S or C&S Scholarship Fund. You can still come without putting up the earnest money, but we cannot guarantee food if you don't pay and don't arrive on time. Please make this payment to indicate your attendance in addition to RSVP'ing on Meetup.

It's time for Global Day of CodeRetreat again!

Coderetreats are intensive practice events, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of "getting things done," the Coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of learning and nurturing software development skills.

How does it work? We'll implement in pairs or trios a relatively easy programming problem, but introduce constraints in each new 45-minute session. These constraints will teach us more about test-driven development, collaboration skills, designing for maintainable software, and working within the challenging limitations of a particular environment. Our seasoned facilitators have been conducting CR for more than a decade— C&S has been hosting Global Day of Coderetreat in Pittsburgh for several years!

We ask you to have the following up set up before the event:

  • Join #coderetreat on C&S Slack
  • Have a coding environment setup for your favorite language and be able to run hello world + tests
  • Optionally, bring a keyboard to save some time when working together

The event is open to programmers of all skill levels, but there is an expectation that participants are comfortable working in at least one common programming language.

We thank Focus Retreat Center and Position Development for their financial support for this event. They're providing food and drinks and helping cover some costs.

COVID-19 safety measures

Masks required
COVID-19 vaccination required
Event will be indoors
C&S requires masks for anyone who is not fully vaccinated. We will have spare masks available if you forget one. We ask that you be fully vaccinated unless you cannot for medical reasons. We don't require proof but we expect you will value and respect the safety of your community members. Please do not come if you feel sick or have attended an indoor event with more than 250 people in the preceding 5 days. If you're not sure, please get tested!
The event host is instituting the above safety measures for this event. Meetup is not responsible for ensuring, and will not independently verify, that these precautions are followed.
