Carlota, a Yoruba girl was human trafficked into slavery in Cuba when she was ten years old. She worked on the Triunvirato Sugar Plantation. She organized one of the first slave rebellions, and freed over 400 slaves from surrounding plantations before she was captured and tortured as an example to others who would defy the status quo. But she became another type of example, instead she inspired rebellions island wide which eventually helped end slavery in Cuba.
When Cuba after its revolution succeeded and Africa called for help in ending apartheid, Cuba sent troops into An goal, which was credited with the success of the South African liberation, Cuba called their solidarity "Operation Carlota" .
We are engaged in the preservation, restoration and expansion of this world heritage site into an international liberation center.
