Painting Historic Pittsburgh: in person talk this Wednesday!
Details
Hello Pittsburgh Historic Preservation Meetup! This Wednesday is the first East Liberty Valley Historical Society Spring 2026 lecture. We also listed their April 8 talk so that you will have more advance notice. For those newer to this Meetup, welcome! We feature events and talks that zero in on Western PA history, architecture, its preservation, etc. We don't exactly meetup and get social, but showing up and learning about the region is a way to connect with the world. The historical society talk is free (and you don't need to RSVP), but consider joining the membership of the East Liberty Historical Society so that they can continue to offer a range of talks (and then you can get their emails/newsletters and have more advance notice)!
Wed March 4, 7 pm
"Painting Historic Pittsburgh"
Plein-air painters Ron Donoughe and Josh Hoffman show images of their work and talk about how they're inspired by the city's dramatic, undulating topography, its built environment and each other. A book and print sale will follow.

"Historic Skyscrapers of the East End"
Daniel Burnham, legendary architect behind New York's iconic Flatiron Building, designed more skyscrapers in Pittsburgh than in any other city except Chicago. His Highland Building in East Liberty, commissioned by Henry Clay Frick and opened in 1910, was one of Burnham's last projects and boasts some unique architectural flourishes. Author and Skyscraper aficionado Mark Houser presents the fascinating history of the Highland Building, its long-gone skyscraper neighbor, and other East End landmark high-rises and the people who built them.
