Paintable Pittsburgh: The Art of Henry Koerner (exhibition)
Details
This Friday evening is the opening reception for a special exhibition celebrating one of Pittsburgh’s most original and internationally-celebrated artists: Henry Koerner.
Paintable Pittsburgh: The Art of Henry Koerner is a retrospective exhibition that is on view from April 24 through July 31, 2026, at the historic Bost Building in Homestead (623 E. Eighth Avenue, Homestead, PA 15120) .
Rivers of Steel presents this exhibition that explores Koerner’s lifelong engagement with Pittsburgh as both subject and source of inspiration. Featuring works in a range of media, from oil paintings, watercolors, and pen drawings to posters and book jackets, the exhibition highlights this Vienna-born American painter’s restless engagement with our city from his arrival in 1953 until his death in 1991.
The reception is free and open to the public. Light bites will be included.
Free parking is available for visitors in the lot behind the Bost Building accessible via Heisel Street.
Rivers of Steel is a non-profit dedicated to preserving and interpreting the industrial and cultural history of southwestern Pennsylvania. Through its archives, exhibitions, and public programs, Rivers of Steel documents histories of migration, labor, and resilience—contexts that uniquely illuminate Henry Koerner’s life and work in Pittsburgh.
If you can't make the opening reception on Friday, there will be regular hours to visit the exhibition (see Rivers of Steel website).
