Your Potential
"I argue that our best times are those we spend on our passion.
In my life, so far, I know the times that have felt the most interesting, alive, inspiring and positive.
I believe the biggest personal tragedy is spending your life unfulfilled. Never pursuing whatever you
are drawn to.
I have seen the cautionary tales of other people’s lives, watching them tread water while doing
what they’re told, watching them frown as they work toward financial security, plan for the future,
and work toward retirement.
I have seen others spend some of their moments doing what they are passionate about.
Who would choose a path that feels dead and unfulfilling? Obviously, a lot of us.
I want to encourage you to spend as many of your moments as possible where you feel the most
alive.
Some of us will reproduce. The fulfilment of living vicariously through our progeny’s experiences is
quite something. Contributing to our personal family’s continuation feels fulfilling. That is a built-in
destiny.
Responsibility. Yes. What we should do. Yes. Have to do. Yes, yes, yes.
And yet, each of us has our own innate interests. Something that calls to us. Something we love.
As much as you can, do whatever that is.
You feel like maybe going after Enlightenment?
You want to design and make things?
You want to paint a scene, photograph things, write stories or poems, build model airplanes, or
crochet quilts? You want to help others?
Engaging in actions centered on a passion, an interest.
This is what I call living to one’s potential.
Everything you do or don’t do happens in the stretch of moments between your conception and
your last breath.
That’s what I want to talk about with you."
