Franklin, PA Trail Skate (food and drink options afterwards!)

We are excited to return to Franklin, PA to skate the Allegheny River & Samuel Justus Trails! Plan to skate from the Franklin Trailhead at 11:30am. Travel time from Pittsburgh is about 90 mins.

Rough schedule:

11:30 start skate from Franklin Trail Head.
2:30 Regroup at the Franklin Trail Head (although I anticipate some will regroup earlier)
3:00 Stop for food / ice cream / beverages
5/6ish return to Pittsburgh.

The way the trail is set up allows for us all to start together, head towards oil city (5miles) and come back to Franklin - for fast skaters or those wanting more distance we'll continue past Franklin to Belmar (another 5 mile stretch) or Bothom (you guessed it 5 miles from Belmar).

This makes it very easy to pick your option on mileage; while keeping the Franklin trailhead central. There are portapotties and picnic tables for regrouping and relaxing while we wait for everyone to regroup. The town of Franklin is a 1/2 mile from the trailhead via road or sidewalk. There are many watering holes on route and in the town - Benjamin's and Scoop are 1 mile from the trail head. Outdoor cafe dining and ice cream! Maxx’s is the best soft serve and just a short drive away.

This is an all levels trail skate (Or bicycle ride)

The trail is paved and the surface is perfect for inline skating. Parking and Trail Access

To access the trail in Franklin, follow Interstate 80 to Exit 29. Follow Route 8 North to Route 322. Follow 322 East (Liberty Street) through Franklin. After crossing the Allegheny River on the 8th Street Bridge, park at the trailhead on the right.

This trail allows for a serene tour along the beautiful Allegheny River. It is appropriate for all levels of skaters, as described above, you may choose how much you would like to skate.

Bicycles welcome too! This is a 40+ mile trail - cyclists do not need to be limited to a skate pace!
