Duolingo Hosts-Collaboration: A secret element to building world class products

Details

Kicking off our Fall meetup, we have an exciting invitation to Duolingo for an evening of learning and networking. The Women of Duolingo and Pittsburgh WiMLDS invite you to a panel discussion. titled 'Collaboration: A secret element to building world-class products'. The panel will focus on how Duolingo's data science and machine learning influence our products. Panelists (ML Engineer, Data Scientist, and User Experience Researcher) will be on hand to tell their stories.
Food will be provided courtesy of Duolingo's awesome Chefs!

Our amazing panel:
Jenna Lake is a Computer Vision Engineer at Duolingo and works on the Duolingo English Test (https://englishtest.duolingo.com/). She is a graduate of WVU and CMU where she received her degrees in Computer Science, Biometric Systems, and Computer Vision. She is also an avid knitter and loves to read murder mysteries.

Erin Gustafson is a Senior Data Scientist at Duolingo and works primarily on Monetization with Duolingo Plus. She received her BA in Linguistics from University of Texas (Hook ’em Horns!) and her Ph.D. in Linguistics from Northwestern (Go Cats!). In her free time, she plays endless games of backgammon, takes guitar lessons, and wrangles her crazy dog, Henry.

Hope Wilson is a Learning Scientist at Duolingo, where she works particularly on developing language curricula and helping the Duolingo volunteer community as they develop and deploy language courses. She received her BA in Russian from Haverford College, her MA in Russian and Slavic Studies from the University of Arizona, and her Ph.D. in Slavic Languages from The Ohio State University. She has an unhealthy obsession with the Bon Appetit Test Kitchen Youtube videos.

Meredith McDermott is a Senior User Experience Researcher at Duolingo. She received a BA in Art History from Yale University and a Masters of Interaction Design from CMU. She recently moved back to Pittsburgh after four gloriously sunny years in the Bay Area. As a mother of a one-year-old, reach out to her talk “work-life-balance” (ha!) and baby sleep techniques.
