Czym się zajmujemy
This group is for visiting San Francisco Bay Area restaurants and other events that have foodie interest or a food centric theme. Such as food and wine festivals, Eat, Drink San Francisco, the San Francisco Chocolate Festival and San Francisco Street Food Festival.
While food and beverages are of primary importance, this is a social group for having fun, making new friends and keeping touch with others, trying something new, or visiting an old favorite, yet again. Join with a friend or two, or eat with strangers and find common and uncommon feasts of food, conversation and an occasional butterfly.

Administrative Trivia
There are no dues. However some events require a deposit for joining. A deposit is spent toward an attendee’s bill (restaurants sometimes charge a deposit from $5, $50 or the entire cost of a meal and beverage $400).
Events are usually free to attend but each member and their guests pay for their respective meals, drinks, some events have split appetizers or family style meals where each person pays the same price and all share the meal. These details are in each event. Restaurants usually charge city tax and a mandatory gratuity. In San Francisco a percentage for employee insurance. Expect 30% to 35% added to your order.
Some Events ask for attendees to prepay a portion of any deposits or venue costs. These are paid events.
Nonprofit Fundraisers are where a donation is requested, a nonprofit is selected, usually rated 100% (some local charities are not nationally rated but all of their donations are 100% used to support their activities). For our events San Francisco Foodies asks donations to be given to the nonprofit directly, any donations collected are forwarded (100%). These are also marked as paid events.
Event Organizers are unpaid volunteers, however, some may charge a fee. Those will be paid events and full disclosure of where fees go are in each event's description. San Francisco Foodies is always looking for new volunteers as organizers and adding new events.
Use of Meetup Comments and Chat for spam is forbidden. Suggesting events is encouraged. If the event is in another group please contact an event organizer to co-host with our group. Much better to become an event organizer with our group and host an event yourself.

The first Max's opened during 1978 in Burlingame, San Francisco's Max's Opera Cafe soon followed, featuring singing servers, bistro style deli food, and their restaurant empire took off. Founded by Dennis Berkowitz on the principles of treating people fairly and providing high quality food at a great price.
from San Mateo Daily Journal (2012)Currently Michael Adams is the General Manager and Executive Chef Carlos Salcedo.
Burlingame's Max's was my first experience with this Northern California staple, they all have a large menu, with delicious selections of deli sandwiches, seafood, pasta, steaks and huge desserts. I especially enjoyed their made at your table iced tea, providing an elegance to a simple order, like hushed angel wings you could only imagine what would arrive later.
Bring your sense of wonder and appetite, for this day we dine as kings.

Shoutout to a fellow SF Foodie member for putting this restaurant on my radar.Khachapuri, khacho" (curd) and "puri" (bread) is a traditional Georgian comfort food that resembles a boat. Made of fluffy dough, with a variety of cheese and distinctive raw egg in the center. The hot cheese melts into the dough, cooking the egg sunny side up. Menu

from eventbrite invitationCheese Plus opened as I moved into the Pacific Heights neighborhood, an upscale deli focusing on cheese, wine and the little things that make a meal special. Now they are celebrating their 20th year at 2001 Polk St, down the block from Harris' Steakhouse.
Their shelves and shop look unorganized at first glance, but as your move around their placement makes sense, like oh... I definitely need that also! Cheese Plus may not feel romantic during their block party, but definitely is, come in and shop for a special picnic, then go relax in Dolores, Golden Gate or in the hidden gem up on Gough. Some bread, cheese and a little magic (like honey) and the day will warm your heart forever.
And then there are sandwiches.. I have tried many.. and they don't seem to have changed at all. The Number 2 Willie Brown is my favorite. Duck and Fig arranged between sliced baguette in a way that makes me feel like I am not sophisticated enough.
Funny Story, shortly after Cheese Plus opened Celebrity Chef Tom Colicchio opened one of his famous sandwich places 'wichcraft in SOMA. Their Duck sandwich was a very dry pale imitation of The Willie Brown. No disrespect, but the gap was minded.
San Francisco Foodies in my three and a half tenure here has never had a repeating event. If I could rinse and repeat every five years I would.
Come and see the not so old, not so new, tasty, wonderful, loud, fun Russian Hill Block Party hosted by Cheese Plus in honor of their milestone.

- Yank Sing: Dim Sum Table for 6 (Family Style)Yank Sing, San Francisco, CA
Yank Sing
George and Alice Chan begin creating the Yank Sing chili pepper sauce, shortly after emigrating from China and before opening the restaurant. Like many Chinese families in the late 1940’s, they fled China during the Communist Revolution and settled in San Francisco in hopes of a better life for their four children.
from websiteWe will be going to their beautiful 49 Stevenson location in celebration of their 1949 opening about 64 years ago.
I feel sad, reading some of my favorite reviews poking fun at Yank Sing. Eat like a tourist by SFGate, if I can have freshly steamed dim sum served to me at a table I don't need to be in Hong Kong, I love many dim sum places, and I am not an expert, I do this for fun, to meet new people and share a wonderful meal. **Yank Sing **is not fake to me, they aren't gouging, they have an attentive and great staff, their dumplings taste close to perfection whether you are there on a weekend or for lunch. The old red lady San Francisco Chronicle praises them because they still. have carts.
Again, I understand that Chinatown is one muni stop away, a few blocks, and there are a slew of amazing dim sum restaurants, I have favorites there too. For Sixty-Four years in San Francisco's cold brick, unforgiving Financial District. Yank Sing has done more than survive.
I'll go on the record and say I love Yank Sing.
I am unsure who the current owners are, but Henry and Judy Chan were the last mentioned.
How this Dim Sum Event works
Dim Sum literally translated is So close to my heart. A group meal of small plates meant to be shared, for this short meal, we are like one.In that spirit, i'll order a smattering of six dishes to share between us, they will consist of Shellfish, Pork, Beef and vegetables. They'll add tax and tip and we'll split the bill six ways. There will be tea involved. Any extra orders need to be on a separate check.
Come and eat downtown on the weekend.
