Some examples of problems with self-managed teams:

• Difficult to set up, particularly if there is no previous experience in organisation of having self-managed teams.
• Difficulties interacting with other parts of the organisation because of their different working practices.
• Anxiety of individuals new to self-managed teams if they perceive that they may be given extra responsibility.
• Managers may feel that their role is threatened by having some responsibility taken away from them.
• Redundant communication because there is often no clear structure for communication, obtaining guidance, or making decisions.
• "Freeloaders".
• Lack of tolerance of errors and space for learning.
• Lack of trust both within the team and between the team and the managers.
