Chocolate, Public Gardens, Pizza & Happy Hour

Georgetown Cupcake Soho

The weather is hopefully finally getting a bit warmer. Let's shake off our winter blues on an adventure exploring Soho and Lower East Side. We will start by indulging our sweet teeth at Georgetown Cupcakes. Last week was the start of spring - so in the spirit of hoping for warmer weather we will visit two local public gardens. Afterwards (for those that are interested) we will visit a couple of pizza spots. Finally if anyone is interested we end our day at happy hour (where we can discuss our warmer weather plans). If you are planning on ordering cupcakes or coffee from GeorgeTown Cupcakes please be on time. We will be ordering to go - There's not enough room for everyone to sit down. If you elect to sit - follow our itinerary below to find the group. Our next stop will be Elizabeth Street Public Garden. If you are running late - it's on Elizabeth street between Prince + Spring. Please bear in mind once we leave Georgetown Cupcakes I won't be replying to any texts/comments/etc - and you will be responsible for locating us. For more information: https://www.elizabethstreetgarden.com/visit-contact/ Then we will head over to Liz Christy Garden: http://www.lizchristygarden.us/ The Bowery Street Mural is directly across the street (if there's one up) we can check it out while we are there. If we are in the mood for more chocolate we will head over to Roni Sue Chocolates (They are known for their chocolate lollipops and truffles) Roni Sue Chocolates - 148 Forysth http://www.roni-sue.com/ We will then visit a couple of pizza spots: Stanton Street Pizza - 127 Stanton Rizzo's pizza - 17 Clinton Street http://www.rizzosfinepizza.com/ If we are still hungry and have a manageable sized group we will head to Trapizzino - they specialize in Roman Street foods. (but they are bit tiny) https://www.trapizzinousa.com/menus/ Rain or extreme cold will cancel this meetup.

Let's Hike the Palisades

United Palace

As the weather hopefully warms up a bit more we will stretch our legs more. For this one we return to an old favorite. The Palisades are easily accessible by just walking over the George Washington Bridge. We'll meet in front of the United Palace theater then to 178th street and walk over the bridge on the pedestrian pathway which has nice views of the Hudson river and all of the city and NJ. We have to walk in single file if there are bikes around, as bikes and pedestrians share the path Once over the bridge we'll turn North and head up the Long Path in the Palisades Interstate Park. for about 4 miles through Allison Park and then descend to riverside where we can have our lunch break. There are great views here of the Hudson River, bridge and north part of Manhattan. After lunch we will hike back at the river level and then walk the trail up again to the GWB which we will cross to return to Manhattan. Things to add: Be on time. We will wait for 10-15 before heading over bridge. Stragglers will be responsible for catching up. Please bear in mind if you don't like walking, this probably wouldn't be the best meet-up for you. This will be around 7-8 miles, and take us maybe 4-5 hours all in all, at at relaxed pace. Bring water (at least 1-2 quarts) Pack a lunch and snacks. You don't need hiking shoes but you should have sneakers with a good arch. And just in case here is my cell[masked]

Urban Adventure- Roosevelt Island + Breweries

Roosevelt Island Tramway

Let's embark on an urban escape to Roosevelt Island and Long Island City. Our adventure will include a tram ride, fabulous views of the Manhattan skyline, outdoor sculptures & street murals. For those that are interested, we will cap our day off at local Queens breweries (for those who don't drink they should have food and snacks as well) We'll start our adventure by riding the Roosevelt tram. To ride the tram you need a metrocard. It is the same fare as the NYC subway. (You can also use your unlimited metrocard if you have one.) On Roosevelt Island we walk the waterfront to capture photos of the Manhattan skyline, followed by the Four Freedoms on the South End and the lighthouse on the North End. Then we'll walk across the Roosevelt Island Bridge - into Queens. (If you don't want to join us: you can return on the tram, take the subway or ride the NYC Ferry.) If the weather is nice we will walk along the waterfront to Rainey Park to Socrates Sculpture Park. Information on Socrates Sculpture Park: http://socratessculpturepark.org/ Then we will check out nearby Welling Court. Information on Welling Court: https://wellingcourtmuralproject.com/ For those interested some local breweries. Here's some information. (They are listed in order of distance from Socrates) http://licbeerproject.com/ https://www.bigalicebrewing.com/ http://rockawaybrewco.com/ http://www.fifthhammerbrewing.com/ Sorry but I won't be accommodating anyone who wants to join just for the Long Island City or Brewery portion. For this meetup you should be prepared to walk 5-6 miles (mostly flat there may be some steps as well. We will take several stops along the way to take photos. Also, since this is an urban hike you have the option of dropping out whenever you want. For those who prefer to meet us directly on Roosevelt Island there is a separate meetup (with time and place to meet us). Please read and RSVP there. You don't have RSVP for both meetups. We will wait outside of the tram entrance for 15 minutes. Please leave extra time for weekend train delays. Also, make sure to take care of (using the restroom, picking up water/coffee, etc) before meeting the group. Thanks. If you have trouble spotting the group you can reach me on my cell[masked]. Please bear in mind once we start moving it will be difficult for me to answer my phone and or reply to texts or comments. Rain will cancel this meetup.
